Read the descriptions below. What level of Arabic do you think you belong in, Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced? • Beginner Arabic : Beginner Arabic is designed to be a basic introduction to the language to those who have no previous exposure to Arabic or who have studied a little but need a refresher course. • Intermediate Arabic : Students must have already taken some Arabic, know the Arabic alphabet, and be able to read and write simple Arabic sentences. This class will use an Arabic book that teaches Modern Standard Arabic using Arabic script. If you used transliteration only to learn Arabic than we highly recommend you begin studying the Arabic script before you arrive. Students in this class should have already taken at least 40 to 50 hours of Arabic instruction or its equivalent.
• Advanced Arabic : Students must have already acquired basic reading, writing, and speaking. This class will focus on improving vocabulary necessary to carry on basic conversations. This Students in this class should have completed 80 to 100 or more hours of Arabic instruction or its equivalent. Because many of our advanced students have studied different dialects in different contexts it is very difficult for us to provide a classroom learning environment that meets all advanced students needs. Therefore advanced students may be placed with a tutor for private instruction for a total of 15 hours of instruction. • Opt Out : If you speak Arabic fluently, you can opt out of Arabic classes. We also let others opt out on a case-by-case basis if requested.
